Deal proactively with rights violations
Rights violations in the workplace are serious and should be handled immediately. Here’s what you can do:
- Start with Your Supervisor: Address the issue directly with your supervisor to seek resolution.
- Escalate to HR: If unresolved, escalate the issue to Human Resources for further action.
- Speak with Your Course Coordinator: For course-related jobs, talk to your practicum or internship coordinator for support.
- Union Support: If you’re in a union, contact your union representative for guidance through the grievance process.
- Consult an Employment Lawyer: For serious violations or if the issue persists, consider seeking legal advice.
- Government Assistance: File an Employment Standards Claim with the Ontario Ministry of Labour for issues like unpaid wages or overtime.
- Human Rights Complaints: For human rights violations, consider filing a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.
