Tips for Finding Summer Jobs

Looking for summer opportunities?

The Career Centre can help streamline your search with our comprehensive guide.

General Job Search Tips

Explore Company Websites: Check the "Careers" or "Jobs" pages of companies you're interested in. Many list jobs exclusively on their own sites before posting elsewhere. Research each company’s values and culture to tailor your application effectively.

Use Job Search Engines: Target industry-specific job search engines and directories like Yellow Pages. The Career Centre offers access to various industry-specific job search websites that you can access here

LinkedIn: Use LinkedIn to explore job openings and leverage your network for referrals or informational interviews.

Experience York: Our job board features a variety of internships and jobs not tied to specific York programs. To find jobs specific to your program:

  • Click “Job Postings”
  • Select “For My Program”

YU Hire: For on-campus jobs:

  • Create an account on YU Hire
  • Search and apply for positions with your resume and cover letter

Set Up Job Alerts: Customize alerts on job search platforms to receive notifications for relevant openings. Regularly adjust your preferences to stay updated.

Cold Calling: Reach out to employers proactively. Research organizations, plan your call, and be prepared to discuss your qualifications.
