Develop your interview skills

It's completely normal to feel nervous before an interview. The best way to ease that anxiety and present yourself confidently is to prepare ahead of time and practise—over and over!

Key Questions to Ask Yourself Before an Interview

  • What are the most common interview questions? Get familiar with the questions that tend to come up frequently.

  • Can I confidently handle both behavioural and situational questions? Understand the difference between these types of questions and know how to approach each one.

  • How much information should I provide? Learn to strike the right balance—sharing just enough detail without oversharing.

  • Is it okay to use unpaid experiences if I haven’t had a paid job? Yes! Volunteering, internships, and other unpaid roles are valid experiences that showcase your skills.

  • What should I wear? Dressing appropriately matters. Ensure your outfit is professional and suits the job you're applying for.

What kind of impression do you give in an interview?

Want to know how you come across while answering questions? Practising in front of a mirror or with someone who will offer honest feedback can be eye-opening. It helps you notice any nervous habits like saying "um" too much or fidgeting. Ask a friend, roommate, or family member to assist you, or visit the Career Centre for an Interview Practice Session. A Career Educator can provide personalized feedback to boost your confidence and help refine your interview skills.
